Child & Adolescent Therapy
I have over 20 years of experience working with children and adolescents from ages 3-18 as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor™ (RPT-S™).
As a parent collaborator, I will work with you to understand the function of your child’s behavior. I will also assist you with parenting skills that will help you become a more confident, positive, and effective parent. Together, we will support your child as they build self-esteem, learn more productive coping skills, heal from trauma, and strengthen their bond with you.
I can help your child navigate:
Challenges at home and school
Anxiety and depression
Difficulty with social interactions
Low self-esteem
Life transitions
Divorce
Separation anxiety
Grief and loss
Trauma and attachment
Abuse and neglect
Parent Consultation
Parent consultation sessions are parent-only sessions which I incorporate as part of my work with your child. You can also schedule parent sessions without enrolling your child in therapy. Our work together will help you develop your parenting style and gain a deeper understanding of your child or teen, even if they are not ready or willing to engage in therapy themselves.
Specializations
Kids and teens often don’t have the words to express themselves. For this reason, I am highly trained in developmentally appropriate methods such as play therapy and sand tray therapy in addition to traditional talk therapy. You can learn more about these and other modalities below.
-
Play is a primary form of communication in children where toys are their words and play is their language. Play therapy provides a safe environment for children to explore and process their thoughts, emotions, and challenges through the medium of play. For more information about play therapy and its benefits, visit the Association for Play Therapy.
-
Sandtray is an experiential modality that allows children and teens to process their emotions when verbal communication is difficult or overwhelming. Clients engage in a hands-on process where they build a scene with miniature figurines in a container of sand, using symbolism and storytelling to express their internal worlds.
-
Similar to play therapy and sandtray, expressive arts therapy uses a variety of arts and crafts activities as a non-verbal way to process and express emotions using creativity. Expressive arts can be used alongside talk therapy to unlock feelings and experiences that are difficult to verbalize.
-
SPACE is a treatment program that gives parents tools to support children and teens suffering from anxiety disorders. SPACE is effective for challenges such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), general anxiety disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety, selective mutism, picky eating (ARFID), and more.
-
TBRI® is a therapy model tailored for children recovering from trauma. Grounded in neuroscience and attachment theory, this modality is designed to create a sense of safety between children and their parents.
